How to obtain international IFMGA/IVBV/UIAGM certifications

The path to earning the IVBV/IFMGA/UIGHM Mountain Guide certification is long and demanding. As challenging as our work is rewarding and responsible.

Qualifying for the course requires demonstrating an above-average record of climbing ascents on rock, mixed, and ice in various mountain ranges, as well as the ability to ski well in all conditions, supported by a reliable record of ski touring ascents and excellent physical fitness.

The training conducted by the Polish Mountain Guides Association (PSPW), in accordance with global standards, lasts from 3 to 5 years and includes a range of courses: rock climbing, summer Tatra mountaineering, winter Tatra mountaineering, avalanche safety, ski touring, and courses divided into similar blocks in glacier mountains. During the course, participants must, in addition to training sessions, demonstrate independent climbing and ski touring skills on challenging targets.

This difficult and lengthy process is complemented by dozens of days of practical training under the supervision of experienced guides, and culminates in multi-day final exams.
